2008 FAWCO Foundation Award Recipients

In its ongoing commitment to supporting education, The FAWCO Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2008 Awards. We congratulate all of the recipients:

ARTS AWARD sponsored in part by AWG Paris $5,000
Claudia Jane Scroccaro is the recipient of the Arts Award. She is currently enrolled in the Masters Degree Program for Music at the University of Rome. She plans to pursue a career as an orchestral conductor. Her mother is a member of AWA Rome.

SCIENCES AWARD (in memory of Frieda Bacigalupo Natali) sponsored in part by AIWC Genoa. $5,000
Patrick Smollen is the recipient of the Sciences Award. He will use his award to continue his studies at Southern Methodist University. He maintains a 4.0 G.P.A in his triple major program of Chemistry, Mathematics, and Spanish. His mother is a member of AWC London.

HUMANITIES AWARD (in memory of Gertrude de Gallaix) sponsored in part by AAWE Paris $5,000
David Benjamin Lynch is the recipient of the Humanities Award. He was the organizer of a “swim-a-thon” fundraiser for the Flying Eye Hospital in India. He will use his award to pursue his studies in International Studies and Economics at Harvard University. His mother is a member of AW Surrey.

SPECIAL CHALLENGES AWARD sponsored by Chilterns AWC $3,000
Jacqueline Elizabeth Lynch is the recipient of the Special Challenges Award. She was afflicted with Encephalitis at age three, and despite comprehension difficulties maintains a 3.5 G.P.A. and is an editor on her high school paper. She plans a career in journalism. Her mother is a member of AW Surrey.

J.V. RICE ADVANCED STUDIES AWARD sponsored by Family, Friends and Colleagues of Professor Rice $3,000
Carolyn Coughlan is the recipient of the J.V. Rice Advanced Studies Award. Her undergraduate work focused on children with Autism. She will use her award as she begins her 8 year program to become a Pediatric Neurologist. Her mother is a member of AW Surrey.

MARY WALKER MAG HASSE ASIAN STUDIES AWARD sponsored by Family and Friends $5,000
Alexander Lord Barton is the recipient of the Mary Walker Mag Hasse Asian Studies Award. He is majoring in Chinese studies at Sheffield University. He will use the award to pursue an MBA degree at a Chinese University. His mother is a member of AWC Antwerp.

AWC BASEL FAWCO MEMBERS AWARD sponsored by Shirley Kearney $5,000
Jennifer Pollard is the recipient of the AWC Basel FAWCO Members Award. She is a physician who has practiced primary care medicine in underserved countries. She will use her award to continue pursuing a Master Degree in Public Health at the Universidad Nacional de Columbia. She is a member of AWC Bogota.

RICHARD R. HALLOCK FOUNDATION AWARDS $3,500 each
The Richard R. Hallock Foundation sponsored two awards for bi-cultural children of members of AAWE Paris. The 2008 recipients are: Vanora Roland received the Academic Award and Floriane Murphy Borel received the Non-Academic Award.

FAUSA EDUCATION AWARD $3,000
Kristin Knoll is the recipient of this year’s FAUSA Education Award.
